Old Age Home To Celebrate World Interact Week

“Age is a question of mind over matter , if you don’t mind it won’t matter”
In order to celebrate “World Interact Week”, the Interact club of M.L. Khanna D.A.V Public school, Dwarka visited Godhuli –the Senior Citizens’ home. Interactors were welcomed with open arms and big grins on the faces of the elderlies . It was the interactors’ second visit to Godhuli and students considered them as the part of their family. The interactors put their whole-hearted efforts in entertaining the senior citizens. They presented a garba dance performance. A game of passing the parcel was also played which opened the invaluable treasure of memories kept by the elderlies. A musical game of picking the slip and singing the song mentioned in the slip was also organised. The residents bubbled with energy as they shook a leg and hummed to the tune of evergreen old classic songs! They felt excited on winning the prizes. It was a different kind of satisfaction altogether, to hear their joyous laughs. Their heart-warming smiles inspired the interactors to take more such initiatives ahead. On a special request by some of the old people, interactors prepared a song on the spot and melodiously sang it for the elderlies. The glee on their faces was worth seeing while receiving the beautiful handmade cards and flowers by the interactors .The interactors spent quality time with them and provided them with the much-needed warmth and care. The elderlies expressed their gratitude for making their day special and requested the interactors to visit again. Spending these few hours with them, interactors developed a bond which they could cherish for the years to come.

To celebrate ‘World Interact Week’ and show their love and concern for the less fortunate children of the society, the students of Interact Club of M L Khanna DAV Public School, Dwarka went to different orphanages. They got a wonderful chance to meet the girls at the Auxilium Snehalaya- an orphanage for girls. The meeting was sentimental and established a bond between the girls and the students. The girls presented a song to welcome the students. The interactors talked to them and discussed about their like, dislikes and hobbies. They talked about their everyday life at the orphanage. The students also danced along with them. A number of beautiful memories were shared.
The interactors also visited the Don Bosco Orphanage for Boys. The orphanage housed children from age 6 to 18. It was endearing to note that many of them were not only talented but highly accomplished. They shared stories, jokes and songs and participated eagerly and enthusiastically in different sports activities. The interactors of the school played the game of dodge ball with them. They stunned everyone by their energy and agility. They later thanked us for the opportunity and the experience and were happy to receive the prizes. The gleam and smile spread on their faces filled the heart of interactors with warmth towards their new found friends.
Interactors also donated stationery, including pens, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, colours and notebooks to both the orphanages. The students gathered memories to cherish lifelong and it was very difficult for them to bid adieu.

The resource persons were from Salaam Balak Trust  which is a non-governmental, non-profit organization based in India.
The school doctor Ms. Ruchi Chopra, also one of the resource persons, discussed the topic in detail. The students were asked to share their own experiences of menarche. The school doctor discussed menstrual cycle and the occurrence of adolescence in girls and the fluctuations in hormones during this phase.
Ms. Annu ,resource person from Salam Balak Trust demonstrated  models of the female reproductive system and a lot of sanitary products which can be effectively used during this time. There were discussions about environmental degradation due to improper disposal of sanitary napkins. She also talked about the need and importance of maintaining hygiene during this time.
The students also freely interacted during the discussions and raised their doubts and questions about the various social norms and customs attached to menstruation. The school doctor got them rid of the doubts they had.

The workshop was very enlightening, and the students learnt a great deal about menstrual hygiene.
