Mosquito Bite
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
Dengue is a mosquito born viral disease
spreading its tentacles all over the world. With the onset of monsoon season
lurks the threat of dengue. The Interact Club of M L Khanna DAV Public School
Dwarka organized Dengue Awareness Campaign to spread awareness about dengue and
promote a safer and healthier learning environment in school. An array of activities
was organized to sensitise the students about dengue. Students made placards
conveying the message to prevent dengue.
‘Fight
the Bite’ Campaign was organized in school wherein each student of the school wrote
a slogan, advice or a message related to keep the deadly bite at bay on the
tags provided to them by the school. These tags were tied by them on the nets placed
at different areas of the school. Taking this crusade beyond school boundaries,
the students of the Interact Club visited MDH International School, Dwarka,
Govt. Co-Ed Sr. Sec. School, Site-1,Dwarka and ITL Public School, Dwarka to further
spread the awareness among the students of other schools. The campaign got
commendable response and students of these schools also showed their zeal in
writing their messages and tying them on the nets.
A
special assembly was organized to encourage sensitivity about the importance of
proper environment sanitation in the fight against dengue fever. An informative
speech was presented conveying the message ‘Prevention is better than cure’. A street play highlighting the causes,
possible breeding sites of dengue mosquito and home remedies to prevent it, was
presented by the interactors. A poem on dengue highlighting the do’s and don’ts
of dengue was recited. A quiz was also conducted to test the knowledge of
students about dengue fever. Students enthusiastically participated in it and
the winners were given mosquito repellants cream as the prize.
Dengue
Awareness Campaign was also carried out in school wherein the interactors
educated students of Pre-School to Class IV about dengue mosquito. Sites prone
to breeding of dengue mosquito like flower pots with water were deliberately
created in the school to make the children alert of the serious consequences of
accumulation of water. The students guided by the interactors visited those
sites wearing full sleeves clothes, masks and gloves. Preventive and self
protection measures to ‘Fight the Bite’ were elucidated to them. Kerosene was
sprayed by the gardener on the spot to demonstrate the ways to kill dengue
mosquito. Students shared the information gained on the fatal disease with
their classmates and parents.
Principal
Ms Monika Mehan appreciated the drive initiated by the Interact Club and urged the
students to keep their surroundings sanitized to prevent dengue.
