                        Dengue Prevention Week
                                                          Fight the Bite

Dengue fever is fast emerging as a pandemic viral disease and with the arrival of the monsoon there is an increase in the spread of this disease.

Taking the onus to spread awareness about dengue and to promote and provide a safer and healthier learning environment, the Interact Club of DAV Dwarka observed Dengue Prevention Week which covered dengue awareness activities spanning the whole week.

Students made placards conveying the message to prevent dengue. A special assembly was organized to spread awareness about the importance of proper environment sanitation in the fight against dengue fever. A street play highlighting the causes, possible breeding sites of dengue mosquito and home remedies to prevent it, was presented by the interactors.

Continuing the efforts to eliminate the possibilities of this potentially lethal disease, Dengue Awareness Campaign was carried out, wherein the students of the club educated Pre-School to Class IV students about dengue mosquito. Sites like flower pots with water, were deliberately created in the school for the drive. The students guided by the interactors visited those sites wearing masks and gloves. Kerosene was sprayed by the gardener on the spot to demonstrate ways to kill the dengue mosquito. Preventive and self protection measures to ‘Fight the Bite’ were elucidated to the school populace. Students shared the information gained on the fatal disease with their classmates and parents. A rally was also carried out in school. The little ones participated in it enthusiastically shouting slogans like ‘Let’s fight against dengue’.

Principal Ms Monika Mehan applauded the endeavours of the Interact Club in organizing the anti-dengue drive. She motivated the students to foster environmental consciousness and keep their environment sanitized to prevent dengue.

Interact Club of DAV Dwarka organises Environment Protection Week

The Interact Club of DAV Dwarka organised Environment Protection Week to sensitise the students about the degrading environment and the need of planting trees.A plethora of activities was conducted under this drive wherein the club students participated enthusisatically.
Class IX made attractive banners conveying the message ‘Save Trees’. Classes X and XI aesthetically decorated the wall of the greenhouse by creating images related to nature using bottle caps. The entire school participated in the flourishing plantation drive wherein herbal plants were planted in the school.
In continuation with the efforts to preserve biodiversity, a workshop on ‘How to make a Birdhouse’ was conducted by Mr. Rakesh Khatri, Director, NGO, Eco Roots Foundation. Interactors made bird houses and placed them in different areas of the school. Feeders were also kept near the birdhouses to attract the birds. Students enthusiastically participated in the making of the birdhouses. They expressed their concern and volunteered themselves to protect the endangered species. This would be a small step to revive the dwindling population of house sparrows.
Principal Monika Mehan sensitized the students about the reasons of vanishing house sparrows in our ecosystem and how placing birdhouses can play a vital role in bringing the birds back to their home. She applauded zealous participation of the students in the activity.
