Report- Blood Donation Camp- 6th
November 2014
In
light of the initiative taken by Arya Pradeshik Pratinidhi Upsabha Delhi and
Arya Yuva Sabha Delhi under the aegis of Arya Pradeshik Pratinidhi Sabha and DAV
College Managing Committee, DAV Public School Sector-6 Dwarka New Delhi,
organized a voluntary ‘BLOOD DONATION CAMP’ on Thursday, 6th
November 2014. The camp was organized by the ‘Interact Club’ and ‘Arya Yuva
Samaj Club’ of the school under the esteem guidance of the school Principal Ms.
Monika Mehan. It was sponsored by ‘The Rotary Club of Delhi Uptown’.
Ahead
of the Blood Donation Camp the school organized interesting activities
to sensitize students about
the importance of Blood Donation. On 1st November 2014 students of
classes 9 and 10 participated in Inter Class ‘Banner Making Competition’ and
students of classes 7 and 8 participated in ‘Placard Making Competition’. The
outcome was extraordinary, with the Banners and Placards pictorially exhibiting
delightful and motivational slogans to promote ‘Blood Donation’. On 3rd
November 2014 students of classes 5 and 6 made colourful posters to encourage
blood donation. The campaign gained momentum as the very spirited tiny tots of
the school took up the cause, formed a human chain and shouted slogans to
donate blood. Students of LKG-UKG formed
a human chain in the courtyard of the school whereas students of class I-II did
the same in the school playground. Students of classes 3 and 4 marched out of the
school to persuade the people of the surrounding areas to donate blood. The
drive was taken forward by the students of classes 7 and 8 and Interact Club
members on 5th November 2014 in the form of a Rally which motivated people
around the school premises to offer their share for the noble cause. A special
assembly was also conducted in the school where the health officer of the
school Dr. Manju Goswami apprised the students of the importance of blood
donation. She also dispelled the myths related to blood donation and its after
effects. Students got answers to their queries and were influenced to motivate
people to join the drive by donating blood on 6th November 2014 in the school
premises. On the same day, the students and the teachers of the school also
participated in the ‘Curtain Raiser’ ceremony held as a prelude to the
nationwide blood donation drive being organized by DAV College Managing
Committee. They were instrumental in making the Curtain Raiser a success
by contributing to the decoration of the venue, the welcome of the guests of
honour and the arrangement of souvenirs (jute bags and mugs) for the donors.
The
final day, 6th November 2014, started with the Hawan ceremony attended by the
faculty members of the school. The school saw an overwhelming response and 91
units of blood were collected. The camp started at 8:30 am with the school
Principal and teachers leading by example and donating blood. The camp had many
people coming for blood donation from parents of students to people around the
school premises. The volunteers registered themselves and went through a pre
medical examination. The volunteers who could donate blood ensued for the
procedure and were then provided with snacks, a mug, a badge and a certificate
of appreciation. But what they carried with them was beyond the material
appreciation- a fulfillment of being able to contribute to the society. Throughout the day, there were smiles and
laughter all around- a true embodiment of what we believe in- selfless service
with a smile.
On
this occasion, Shri T.R Gupta ji the Vice President of DAV CMC and Chairman of
the school congratulated the school on taking up the noble initiative. He
enlightened everyone with his speech on the importance of YOG in our
lives and how simple acts can help us to achieve the three YOGS - Gyan
Yog, Bhakti Yog and Karma Yog. The students welcomed him with a song and
Gurbani. The atmosphere became more divine with the lighting of the lamp done
by the dignitary. The camp continued till 4 pm with gratified faces all around.
In
this way the faculty members and the students of the school celebrated the
auspicious occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti by engaging themselves and people
around them in the noble cause.
